Deng among four ex-Topcats in GB squad

Luol Deng is one of four former Brixton Topcats to be named in Great Britain’s preliminary basketball Olympics squad.

Deng, who celebrated his 27th birthday on Monday, played for Brixton in his teenage years.

He is now one of Chicago Bulls’ star players and is the stand-out name among the 21-strong British team.

He is joined in the squad by fellow former Topcats Ogo Adegboye, Eric Boateng and Matthew Bryan-Amaning All three are playing for teams in Europe at the moment, with Adegboye at Cypriot side Apoel Nicosia, Bryan-Amaning on the books of Turkish side Hacettepe and Boateng playing in Greece.

The squad will be cut on May 16 and then reduced to 12 players in July.

“We have the potential for a world-class team who will surprise a few people,” said GB coach Chris Finch.
