Bradley Skeete proved any doubters wrong last Thursday after beating Peter McDonagh for the second time at York Hall to defend his Southern Area welterweight title.

The first contest back in September was close and many observers felt McDonagh was robbed of victory but this time around there was no disputing the decision.

McDonagh had only stepped in as a last-minute replacement for the injured Darryl Still but that did not face 25-year-old Skeete, from Battersea, notching up a complete 100-90 shutout on referee’s Jeff Hinds scorecard to take his professional record to 11 straight wins.

"This one was the better win," said the former Earlsfield ABC representative.

"I changed my tactics in this second fight but I knew he was going to do the same from the first one so just I dictated the fight throughout.

"I was just smashing the jab through, hitting him with sharp shots and making them count, also my footwork was spot on - that was the key to my victory.

"A lot of people came to me after the fight and said they’ve never seen McDonagh dealt in that sort of way before."

Skeete continues to move up the British rankings - he is now 11th - and with his next contest is pencilled in for June he is started to eye the British title.

"My promoter Francis Warren said I was punch-perfect and promised there will be some good fights out there for me," he said.

"I’m in a very competitive division but it’s all about getting the right fights at the right time.

"I’m in a good position at the moment because there’s talk of fighting for the British title by the end of the year but I know by the end of the year I’ll be fighting for the British title."
