Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club runners braved wintry weather to compete in the Bank of England AC inter-club cross country match in Richmond Park on Saturday.

Despite the snow, which forced the cancellation of many other sporting events, the race took place with more than 40 runners battling their way round the 4.9 miles course as the snow fell steadily.

Teenager Connor Bindler ran strongly to take second place in 29 minutes, 29 seconds, just 21 seconds behind the race winner.

He finished 12 seconds ahead of his Hercules Wimbledon clubmate Matt Gibbons who the previous weekend was the fifth Surrey finisher in the English schools junior boys cross country championship in Derbyshire.

At the other end of the age scale, over-40 veteran Stedwart Bond was 14th in 32:26.

Hercules Wimbledon were runners-up in the team contest behind Milocarians.

Hercules Wimbledon's Kieran White was a member of the winning Royal Air Force team in the Teddy Hall Relays at Oxford.

He clocked the third best time on the second leg covering the 3.6 miles leg in 18:39 to lift the RAF team from fifth to third place.

The best Hercules Wimbledon runner in action was Andrew Penney, who clocked 18:16 in anchoring the Oxford University team to second place. He was the second fastest member of the Oxford quartet.

Joe Toomey clocked 19:42 on the opening leg to help Liverpool University to ninth place out of more than 100 teams in the men's race. Dominic Kiralyfi anchored the Oxford University team to victory in the mixed team race clocking 18:45, the second fastest time of the quartet.

Adam Harwood was the top Hercules Wimbledon finisher in the weekly Wimbledon Common parkrun taking fourth place out of 150 runners in 20:07.

Over-40 veteran Gordon Lilly was 11th in 21:17 with over 45 veteran Morris Tarragano 14th in 21:41 ahead of his teenage son Tomer who was 15th in a personal best of 21:42. He took 24 seconds off his previous best set in April last year.

Adam Fenton was fifth veteran over-50 finishing 29th in 22:29 and Charles Hampden-Smith seventh over-50 veteran taking 34th place in  23:27. Charles Lawrie was top veteran over-60 finishing 43rd in 23:45.

Several Hercules Wimbledon endurance runners with their eyes on next month's Virgin London Marathon were in action in distance events. Over 45 veteran Tom Cheetham was 112th out of more than 3,300 runners in the Hastings half-marathon in 1.28:03, while Ian Pegler was 169th out of more than 2,000 runners in the B&Q 10km road race at Eastleigh.

Sean Crummy was 15th in the Self Transcendence 10 miles road race in Battersea Park in 59:10, with Frank Wood 22nd, and second veteran over-45 finisher, out of almost 200 runners in 1.02:40.

Angela Kikigawa broke the Hercules Wimbledon women's over 50 record with a time of 1.28:09. She was the second over 50 finisher on the day.
