Hercules Wimbledon's Emma Henderson set a club veteran women's over-40 record when she won the women's event in the Fulham Palace 5km parkrun in Bishops Park on Saturday.

She clocked 19 minutes, 28 seconds in finishing 14th out of 123 runners.

It was an impressive improvement on her previous best time of 20:15 set at Nonsuch Park at the end of September.

Alison Purnell who finished 33rd out of the 123 runners broke her own veterans over-50 record with a time of 21:17.

She was one second faster than the record she set on Wimbledon Common in June.

Her husband, Jeremy, was the top Hercules Wimbledon finisher in 19:14, just three seconds outside his best time set at Solihull the previous weekend.

All three Hercules Wimbledon runners were competing in Bishops Park for the first time.

Marathon-running mum Claire Grima was also the top woman finisher in the Wimbledon Common parkrun on Saturday. She finished sixth out of more than 300 runners in 18:36.

Best Hercules Wimbledon performer was over 40 veteran Peter Collins who was third in 18:25.

Adam Harwood was 11th in 19:09 with teenager Elliot Laville clocking a personal best of 19:59 in finishing 23rd. Emilie Bokor-Ingram was third woman in 20:34.

This weekend, several Hercules Wimbledon youngsters will be competing for their respective boroughs in the London Youth Games cross country championships at Parliament Hill Fields, North London, on Saturday morning.

They will be followed by the club's older athletes competing in the London cross-ountry championships at the same venue.

The senior women's race is at 1.15pm followed by the men at 2pm.
