Surrey gained three individual and two team medals at the Sainsbury's English Schools cross country championships at Temple Newsam Park, Leeds, on Saturday.

Rikki Letch gained a convin-cing individual win in the junior boys' race, covering the 3.65km course in 11 minutes 42 seconds, to lead Surrey to the team title.

Second Surrey finisher was Elliott Woolmer in 14th, with Glyn Technology College's Stefan Richards in 16th.

Matt Wyatt, from Claremont Fancourt School, Esher, completed Surrey's scorers in 41st with Overton Grange Sutton's William Bussell 128th.

Surrey took team silver in the junior girls' championship behind Greater Manchester.

Emelia Gorecka, of Howard of Effingham School, was eight seconds behind the winner in second place.

Grace Shepherd was the fifth scoring member of the silver medal-winning team in 50th.

Grace O'Leary, from Wallington High, was the eighth Surrey finisher in 89th place.

Surrey's fifth medal-winning effort came in the senior boys' event, where Johnny Van Deventer came second, nine seconds behind the winner.

Luke Jones, from Esher College, was the fifth Surrey scorer in 150th.

Michael McManus, from John Fisher School, Sutton, was outside the scoring six in 205th. The team placed 13th.

Surrey's intermediate boys finished fifth, with Howard of Effingham's Josh Gorecki 24th and Wilson School's Daniel Sellman 65th and Tom Hart 237th.

Surrey topped the table in the boys' races with 1,138 points, ahead of Hampshire & Vectis (1,332) and Kent (1,367).

The girls' teams finished fifth overall.

The seniors were 15th, led home by Georgina Bruinvels in ninth place.

Sinead Long, of St Philomena's in Carshalton, was the third scorer in 124th place.

Esher College's Julie Buddery was 144th and Isabel Penney from Tiffin Girls' 166th.

Isabel Brinsden, from Rosebery, Epsom, was the third scorer for Surrey's intermediate girls, who finished ninth. She was 58th with Wallington High's Sophie Cowper 121st, Sunbury Manor's Faith Smith 247th and Phillipa Sweetman 270th.
