Belgrave Harriers' Goldie Sayers smashed the British women's javelin record, producing the outstanding individual performance of the Accenture Loughborough International on Sunday.

Sayers, 24, threw 65.05m to improve on her previous best by 3.6m.

She also eclipsed UK best of 64.87m set by Kelly Morgan in July 2002.

Sayers' superb throw put her at the top of the 2007 world rankings for the event and is a big boost for the IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan, in August.

"It is a shock but not that much of a shock," said Sayers. "I knew I was going to throw a personal best because training has been going fantastically well."

Her massive throw proved the climax of a marathon seven-hour meeting staged in bright sunshine, coming in the final round of the last event of the day.

Two of her Belgrave clubmates were also in top form.

Eva Massey set a Northern Ireland women's shot putt record (16.60m), a 30cm improvement on her lifetime best achieved in 2003.

That beat the mark of 16.40 set by legendary Olympic pentathlon gold medallist Mary Peters way back in 1970.

A third Belgrave woman athlete to score a win was heptathlon international Julie Hollman.

She managed got the better of Jessica Ennis and Gillian Cooke to snatch victory by 1cm with a final leap of the competition of 6.36m.

Hollman, competing as a guest, said: "I had had a few no-jumps but when I saw them shaking hands I thought Hang on, it is not over yet!' I was determined.

"It is all good friendly rivalry."

Former St Mary's student, Faye Fullerton, the former European junior cross country champion, was third in the 1500m (4:14.92).

Herne Hill's Channelle Garnett made an impressive outdoor debut for 2007, finishing fourth in the 100m hurdles (14.19), her fastest time for two seasons.

Kingston University stu-dent Victoria Thomas, was fourth in the hammer (52.95m).
