Surrey 800m and 1,500m champion Gareth Price, who lives in Earlsfield and trains at Wimbledon Park, made an impressive international debut at Loughborough.

He won the match 1,500m for England in three minutes 44.35 seconds.

It was easily his best time of the season so far and ranks the 27-year-old middle-distance runner in the top 10 in the UK.

He finished just ahead of Belgrave's Neil Speaight (3:45.66), who was competing as a guest.

Eight days after celebrating his 20th birthday, Belgrave's Joe Ive produced the best outdoor leap of his career to take second place in the pole vault for the winning England team (5.20m).

It added 10cm to his outdoor best and equalled best his indoor performance, set in winning the Surrey title at Sutton Arena in March.

His Belgrave clubmate Keith Higham was third competing for the British Universities (5.10m).

Belgrave's South of England indoor champion Samson Oni was an impressive winner of the high jump (2.25m), the best outdoor effort by a UK athlete this summer.

Wimbledon Art College student Matt Roberts was equal third (2.15m).

Former St Mary's University College, Twickenham, student, Andy Frost won the hammer (69.65m).

Belgrave's Dominic Girdler, was second in the sprint hurdles (14.03).

Clubmate Wade Bennett-Jackson was fifth in the match 100m (10.70) with Steve Sharp fifth in the 3000m (8:04.75).

There was agony for former Belgrave international Ben Challenger who snapped an Achilles tendon and failed to clear a height.
