Surrey have begun their Home Counties League campaign in fine style by beating Sussex and Middlesex, writes Mike Haigh.

A 134-89 win over Sussex at Croydon last Wednesday meant Surrey picked up 21 points to their opponents one.

Surrey won five of the six rinks to give boss David Clark a perfect start to the season.

Surrey made it 13 wins from their past 14 Home Counties matches by beating Middlesex 129-108 at Croydon on Saturday.

Both teams won three rinks, but Surrey's bigger wins gave them a 21-shot victory.

The youngest rink of Daniel Morris (Cheam), Paul Foley (Southey), Gareth McDonagh (Cheam) and Nathan Beeson (Southey) were the biggest winners, while Darren King's youthful rink won 24-14.

The victory means Surrey top the table with 37 points out of 44 ahead of Saturday's clash with Oxfordshire at Banbury.

Surrey's first away win of the season came in a 124-115 success against Essex at Gidea Park, Romford.

Surrey won four of the six rinks, with Deric Homes, Aga Hassan, Julian Astill and Mike Reed the biggest winners.

Surrey host Isle of Wight at Cranleigh today (Wednesday).
