Skipper Gary Marshall claimed 4-47 to dismiss Farncombe for 157 at Broadwater Park on Saturday, but then saw Worcester Park's hopes of securing a first victory of the season ruined by a calamitous batting collapse, writes Oli Burley.

Park seemed firmly in the box-seat at 126-3, only to lose their last seven wickets for 23 runs and crash to an eight-run defeat.

The result represented a remarkable recovery by Farncombe, who slumped to 7-3 after opting to bat first as Marshall removed Asif Jan and Matthew Downing.

Paceman Rod Bird (2-50) bowled Stuart Diprose for a duck and also dismissed Gary Sewell (22) to break a valuable 34-run fourth-wicket stand, while Joe Hill grabbed 2-17.

But Tom Dunn (53no) made the most of a life to lead the recovery and, from 109-9, he added 48 for the last wicket with Luke Edwards, who struck 23 before falling to spinner John Daniell (2-21).

Rob Waite (21) and Joe Hill (27) gave Park's chase the ideal platform by putting on 52, the highest stand of the match, before Waite received a tough lbw decision.

Rob Hill (28) and Matt Newell (30) furthered Park's victory bid, but Dunn (4-30) shot out Marshall and Daniell for single figures and after Nicky Ball was caught in dubious fashion, Gary Sewell (4-27) worked over the tail as Park folded to 149 all out.

Other results: Worcester Park II 139 (Ian Burrows 27, Mike Byford 35; Matt Pruter 5-26) beat Chertsey 120 (Steve Robinson 4-38, John Rivenell 3-25) by 19 runs; Worcester Park III 209-7 (Michael Sajdeva 83, Vernon Smith 39, Hywell Steel 42) beat Ashford 141 (Chris Turner 3-25, Dave Daniell 3-18) by 68 runs in the last over; Worcester Park IV 21 lost to Leatherhead 22-1 by nine wickets (Worcester Park had only six players).
