Staines & Laleham defeated Surrey Championship Division Five high-flyers Valley End by 41 runs on Saturday.

Staines elected to bat first and before too long were facing a familiar situation.

Three quick wickets fell to some tight Valley bowling and damage limitation was needed.

Brett Archer (26) and Sammy Webber (35) moved the score along but, when Webber fell to an excellent Yorker from Jolly, Staines were once more in trouble.

The final wicket fell in the 42nd over, when a total of just 137 had been achieved.

But skipper Mullard (3-38) and Sam Webber (3-26) blew Valley’s top order away, and the visitors had no answer for the pace and accuracy of the Staines attack.

Valley End’s resistance was over and they were dismissed for 96.

Skipper Kirk Mullard said of his side’s performance: “The guys were really up for it today and felt that they had a point to prove. It’s hard to live with our bowling attack when we turn in a display like that.

“It’s down to the batting now to step up with some massive games ahead of us.”

A lack of runs cost the 2nd XI the win away at Kingstonians. Setting 182-8 thanks to 47 from Tim Evans and John Nannery’s 39, Staines were probably 50 runs short.

Kingstonian passed the target for the loss of six wickets, with Majik Patel the pick of the bowlers with 3-39.

Elsewhere, the thirds lost at home to Old Tiffinians.
