Tony Owen has targeted a step up in class after extending the winning start to his career to five fights after comfortably outpointing John Van Emmenis last weekend.
Owen dominated from the opening bell, flooring Van Emmenis twice in the opening round en route to a 40-35 points verdict over four rounds.
And the Carshalton fighter reckons it is time to move to the next level.
Owen said: “I think I will be back in the ring at the end of January and I think my manager is looking for a step up.
“Whether that be a six-round fight or better opposition I am not sure, but I feel ready to take things up a notch.
“I feel like I rise to the occasion and that a better fighter will bring out the best in me, and as long as I keep training hard I see no problems.”
Despite the comprehensive nature of his win, Owen was not overly happy with his display.
And the 22-year-old lightweight feels that his critical nature will only serve him well.
He added: “It was a good win and my manager was happy, but I am always hard on myself.
“It was not my best fight and I was frustrated I didn’t take him out in the first round.
“I was not getting my shots off how I would like.
“I had to shift a bit of weight to make the limit and I felt a bit drained - certainly not 100 per cent.
“I do not want to make any excuses though - I still won and the camp were happy.
“I just did not look as good doing it as I would have liked.”
