Leon Williams felt he should have got the decision over eventual Prizefighter winner Jon-Lewis Dickinson last Friday evening at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

The 26-year-old Streatham cruiserweight crashed out to Dickinson in the opening round of Barry Hearn’s popular one-night boxing competition series after losing a close three round split decision of 28-29, 29-28 and 28-27.

“I really thought I had it in the bag,” said a very disappointed Williams. “But at the end of the day this is boxing and you get funny decisions.

“I put more pressure on him, I produced the bigger shots. They (the scoring judges) should have given the fight to me.”

The ambitious Williams is determined to work his way to the top of the domestic scene despite suffering his second professional defeat in six outings

“The plan is still to make a name for myself," the former London ABA champion added.

"That’s not going to change because of one loss.

“Crap happens but you just have to keep on moving. I chose this sport so I’m going to give this my full 100 per cent. I will be back for sure no doubt about that because I’m here to stay.”

Durham-based Dickinson, 24, went on to scoop the £32,000 top prize after overcoming former British title challenger from Chesterfield Mark Krence and Battersea fireman Nick Okoth in the final.

Meanwhile Brixton’s Danny Williams will now defend his British heavyweight title on May 15 at Upton Park, West Ham United Football Club against Derek Chisora after original opponent Commonwealth champion Sam Sexton pulled out due to personal matters.
