Surbiton supporters have one last chance to see their men’s first XI in action before the summer break when the team take on EHB Cup finalists Hampstead & Westminster in a friendly at Sugden Road next Tuesday (8pm).

There has always been a good relationship between to the National League rivals, strengthened by ex-Hampstead boss Wayne Bentley taking over that role at Surbiton from the 2005-06 season.

Meanwhile, current Hampstead coach Todd Williams acted as Surbiton defensive advisor the season before last while on “paternity leave” from the north London club. Surbiton have enjoyed an excellent season, finishing third in both the National Premier indoor and outdoor divisions as well as being runners-up to East Grinstead in the National Indoor Championship in Nottingham.

Meanwhile, defender Ben Tibble played for England U21 in last Thursday’s 3-3 draw with Germany as well as the following day’s 4-2 defeat.

The 20-year-old will be hopes keep his place in the squad of 18 for the Euro Hockey Junior Nations Championship in Siemianowice Slaskie, Poland, from July 25-31.
