Twickenham’s Mo Farah warmed up for this weekend’s European team championships in Bergen, Norway, by winning the European Cup 10,000m title in Marseille in dominating fashion.

Farah, who had clocked an impressive 27:44 to win the Bupa London 10,000m five days earlier, again proved that he’s in outstanding shape following a period of altitude training in Kenya.

His winning time of 27 minutes, 28.86 seconds places him third on the UK all-time list.

Only Jon Brown (27:18.14) and former London Marathon winner Eamonn Martin (27:23.06) have run faster than Farah, who was the only member of the British team to run in the A race in Marseille.

Hampton’s Mike Skinner was well below his best this year in finishing 30th in 29:21.90.

Teddington’s Jo Pavey, following her fifth place in the Bupa Great Manchester 10km road race, withdrew from the British team after a period of missed training due to injury and illness.

Although now fully recovered, she opted to focus on her preparations for the European Trials and UK Championships at the end of this month.

Former John Fisher schooboy Martyn Rooney posted his second season’s best time in a week in winning the 400m race at an international meeting in Geneva on Saturday.

His 44.99 was his fastest time for two seasons.
