Ranelagh Harriers scored their third straight victory in Surrey League Division Two on Saturday.

Relegated last year, Harriers hold a 139-point lead over nearest rivals Clapham Chasers, with Guildford & Godalming a further 232 points adrift, making them almost certain to claim promotion in the final race at Richmond Park on February 12.

Despite not being at full strength, with captain Marc Snaith among those sidelined by victory, they were led to victory at Newlands Corner, near Guildford, by 20-year-old orienteering international Ralph Street.

He took the lead at the end of the first lap and strode to victory by almost haf a minute.

Duncan Bell was fourth, just ahead of Peter Haarer and Phil Killingley, who was sixth despite struggling with injury.

Having come first and second in the opening two matches, Killingley leads the league’s individual competition, with Haarer the leading over-40 veteran.

Other Harriers: 22 Gareth Craft, 31 Ed Barker, 39 Ted Mockett, 40 John Shaw, 43 Chris Bundhun, 48 Trevor Maguire.

Ranelagh’s women’s team, who have been Surrey League Division One champions several times in recent years, continue to be hampered by injuries.

Although Liz Kipling finished a superb fourth, they managed just seventh place in the team event at Ham.

Iona Robertson was 18th, Marie Synnott-Welsh 19th, Sandra Prosser 78th and Louise Pears 91st.
