Ben Conway has been crowned national men’s U75kg Kuo Sho champion.
The member of Croydon-based Sanshou UK, who meet at Bedford Hall in Wellesley Road, won all his fights but his final was particularly gruelling.
The fight was declared a draw after three rounds so an unprecedented minute-long fourth round was held to declare the champion.
Although both men were extremely tired, Conway showed great heart and desire, relentlessly attacking to make sure of his win.
Clubmate Robert Gissing, in only his second full contact competition, was narrowly beaten by undefeated champion Martin Sullivan in the U70kg final.
Kuo Sho full-contact events consists of kicks strikes throws and takedowns as well as using knees and elbows.
Sanshou UK Chinese Boxing Association train every Monday and Friday (7.30-9pm).
