Epsom Downs Racecourse will play host to a Queensbury Boxing League British Middleweight title fight next month, with Lewis Pinto promising to wow the crowds, writes Matt Bozeat.

The Roundshaw boxer has vowed to grab his unexpected title opportunity with both hands when the bell goes against Hastings’ James Kelly on September 17.

Pinto is returning to action after suffering his first defeat last time out at the hands of Marlon Stuart and was originally scheduled to make his return on the undercard of the show next month, with Tony Chaplin lined up to face title holder Jimmy Mizon in the main event.

But first Chaplin and then Mizon were forced to withdraw, leaving Pinto with the chance to claim the coveted belt.

“I am absolutely buzzing about getting another shot at the title so soon,” he said.

“This is my chance to show that last time was just a blip and that there were a number of reasons outside the ring that affected my performance that night.

“But for this one I am 100 per cent focused on going in there and getting the win and showing everyone that I am back.”

Pinto struggled to make the weight in the lead up to his last fight, which was at light middleweight, but has shown renewed vigor in training ahead of this clash as he returns to middleweight.

“I just could not seem to shift the pounds and in the end I had to lose so much weight in the last couple of days, I was just dead at the weight,” he said.

“Training-wise, I probably underestimated my opponent and was not dedicated enough in my training camp and that was blatantly exposed on the night.

“But for this fight I am going to be a completely different animal and you’re going to see the best Lewis Pinto has to offer.

“I don’t know too much about my opponent but I have seen some footage of him sparring and he looks very fast.

“My plan is to get in there and tire him out and then come on strong in the later rounds and take him out.

“This is no room for error this time and I am going to win that belt.”

The title fight makes up just one part of a stacked fight card and further information can be found at queensbury boxing.co.uk or by calling the ticket hotline on 07547 022244.
