Surrey champions Hercules Wimbledon have qualified to compete in the English national six-stage road relay championships next month.

The club's team of six finished 19th at the South of England championships at Aldershort on Sunday to earn their place at Sutton Park in Birmingham on October 15.

First-leg runner Alex Robinson ran the fastest 5K leg of the sextet bringing the team in 14th on the opening stage in 18 minutes, 52 seconds.

Matt Sharp (20:39), Andrew Penney (19:08), Phil Glynn (20:36), Dom Kiralyfi (20:12) and Adam Przedrzymirski (20:02) completed the running.

This Sunday, the club is staging the annual Geoff Moulden 10km road race from their Wimbledon Park track headquarters as they celebrate the formal opening of their new £200,000 community clubhouse.

The course follows a two lap loop which takes in Wimbledon Park Road, Church Road, past the All England tennis club, St Mary's Road, Arthur Road and Home Park Road before re-entering Wimbledon Park though the Home Park Road entrance.

The race is named in memory of one of the early members of the former Wimbledon Athletic Club which was formally established in 1953.

Moulden joined Wimbledon AC in May that year and joined the committee a few months later when he was elected the club's first men's track captain.

Entries for the race, which begins at 9.30am and costs £15 to enter, are being accepted on the day.
