Blake Aldridge has gone to Australia in an attempt to qualify for the Red Bull World Series Cliff Diving Tour.

The 29-year-old was an Olympic finalist in 2008 when he dived alongside Tom Daley in the 10m synchronised final, coming eighth.

But a well publicised bust up with Daley and his family led to Aldridge falling out with GB Diving and his chances of making a second Olympics this year are all but over.

So instead, he has turned his attentions to cliff diving - a sport where divers plunge 28m through the air and hit the water at 85kph.

He is already three-time European Cliff Diving Champion and was invited to compete in two World Series events as a wildcard last year.

But this is the first year he has been invited to qualify for the whole 2012 tour and while he may not be able to compete at his home Olympics, he may still be able to perform in front of a home crowd with the World Series adding stops in Wales and Ireland.

"I am both excited and nervous about these qualifications as a lot hangs on this," said Aldridge.

"Should it go well, I have the prospect of an amazing year to look forward to with Red Bull especially as I love this sport and with the prospect of performing in front of a home crowd.

"Should I fail to qualify, it will be a case of a major rethink.

"This all means it will keep me on my toes, focused and will surely give an edge to my performance."

Aldridge is currently at a training camp in the Gold Coast before the qualification competition takes place from next Wednesday.
