Epsom’s Gino Rea had a positive final pre-season test last week at the Spanish circuit of Jerez, writes Alannah Fellows.

The 22-year-old, who signed with the Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 team just before the test, finished in 23rd but in a time within a second of the top six.

Despite crashing on the final day, Rea was happy with how the test had gone.

“This week has been positive and it was a lot better than the last test at Jerez,” he said.

“We are quite a way behind because everybody has been fine-tuning their set-up since the start of the year while we are still trying to make big steps, but the progress we have made has been good.

“We have improved in every area, and we have got rid of the major problems from the last test.”

Rea will make his Moto2 debut in Qatar on April 8.
