Coaches Pierre Aghabala and Peter Barry won awards at the Pro-Active London Sports Awards last week.

Aghabala was named coach of the year while Barry won the south London partner of the year award.

Aghabala coaches rugby league in schools and for Croydon Hurricanes and is responsible for the champion schools and college programme, which has seen new school and club links formed.

Since 2000, Barry has coached football without financial support to young people in New Addington and includes Crystal Palace’s Sean Scannell among his former pupils.

He also established the Solidrock Academy which has qualified a large number of volunteers to become level one coaches in south London.
