Ola Afolabi is calling on Marco ‘Käpt'n’ Huck to give him a third fight after suffering another controversial decision on Saturday at Messehalle, Erfurt, Germany.

The 32-year-old former Battersea ABC rep and Streatham school pupil had to settle with a majority draw as he unfortunately failed to reverse the result from their first encounter back in December 2009 when the rock-solid Serbian kept his WBO world cruiserweight title by a dubious unanimous decision.

While the vastly experienced British judge Paul Thomas and his German counterpart Ingo Barrabas both marked this thrilling edge-on-your-seat gladiatorial 114-all on their scorecards Hungary’s Zoltan Enyedi was a bit more generous towards crowd favourite and main house fighter Huck, who retained the WBO version of the belt for the ninth successive time, with his flattering 115-113 decision – much to the disgust of Afolabi and his camp.

But despite being struck again by controversy on German soil Los Angeles-based Afolabi, of Nigerian origin and who is promoted by world heavyweight champion brothers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, hailed the result as a win: “To me getting a draw in Germany is a win,” he said after registering his third draw in 19 pro-outings. “Obviously I’m not pleased with the result but I’ve could have been a lot worse off.

“I’ve spoken to about twenty people afterwards and they all had me winning about two rounds and that didn’t include the knockdown in the second round that wasn’t counted. I’m sure Huck touched the canvas before the bell went; therefore I should have won the fight by at least one round.

“But I get to keep my interim title, I put on a good show and hopefully we can do it again. Even if I lose the next one we both entertain the crowd and that what it’s all about.”

The South Londoner, who attended Bishop Thomas Grant School, reckons there will be a huge demand for Afolabi-Huck 3. He urges Huck’s promoters Sauerland Event to stage the third meeting at a British venue: “We’ve already done it twice in Germany so come on let’s leave the country and do it in Britain.

“I’ve had a lot of people back home emailing me on facebook saying they had watched the fight on BoxNation so there are fans out there who want to see me fight in Britain.

“I know German fans will show up. It’s only about an hour’s flight so let’s get some English and German fans together and let’s do it on an even fair basis but if they (Sauerland Event) want to do it in another country then let’s do it over there.

“I think the WBO will want a re-match because it gives good attention to them. I’m confident we’ll do it again, I want it so bad.”
