Gino Rea and his Federal Oli Gresini team would like to forget round three of the Moto2 season as quickly as possible.

Technical problems plagued Rea’s bike throughout the weekend at the Estoril Circuit in Portugal and he finished the race on Sunday in 28th – a lap down on race winner Marc Marquez.

“To be honest, I am glad last weekend is finished – it was hard,” said the 23-year-old from Epsom.

“The positive side is that we have shown some decent pace but the downside is that we have had a lot of technical problems.

“The bike cut out in free practice, then we had the same problem again in qualifying on Saturday and then it happened in the race.

“When your race finishes after three laps because of a technical problem it is very frustrating.

“But looking back at the weekend we made good progress with the Showa suspension and now we have to look onwards and upwards.

“I’m really looking forward to Le Mans, which is another new circuit for me to learn.”

“There is not much I can say about a race we would all rather forget,” added team principal Fausto Gresini.

“We will take a close look at this difficult situation and work out the best way to resolve it.”

Rea qualified in 25th and made up places at the start before slipping back down the field when he was caught up in a first lap incident.

The technical problems forced him into the pits on lap six and although he rejoined, he was too far back to be in contention.

He next goes to Le Mans in France in 10 days time for round four.
