Danny Wilson reckons establishing a mean streak could be the difference between success and failure for London Welsh in the Championship this season.

The Dragons moved up to fifth in the table with a last-minute 21-17 win at Moseley last weekend, beating both the opposition and the awful conditions to register a vital win on the road.

And Wilson feels the hard-nosed approach is beginning to bear fruit.

He said: “It was a really physical battle and there is little doubt that suited them more than us.

“But credit to the players in terms of being able to change their attitude.

“It is really important for us as far as building character and confidence goes that we can play in these tight games and come away with a win.

“Sometimes you really have to dog it out and that is not something the players are used to, but we are working on.”

Dan George scored the late try to snatch victory, adding to an earlier Paul Sampson score.

And Wilson was in little doubt his side had deserved the four points.

He added: “It was all us in the last 20 minutes and although we left it late we had plenty of opportunities earlier than that.

“It was raining and the ball and pitch were very greasy, but we got there in the end.

“I certainly think we were the better side and should have sealed it earlier.”

Welsh welcome lowly Doncaster to Old Deer Park this weekend.

But with the visitors having reeled off wins against Bristol and Plymouth over the last two weeks, Wilson is taking nothing for granted.

He added: “It will be another physical game and they have hit a bit of form.

“They are definitely a side on the up and I think they will continue to improve - just hopefully not on Saturday.”
