As the season slid into December G’s welcomed friends and local rivals Chiswick hoping for a reversal of fortunes.

In the end G’s performance matched the weather in so far as a bright start but gloomy ending.

G’s played up the slope in the first half and after some early sparing Chiswick broke the deadlock with a gift of a penalty goal which they gladly took.

Gs then took control of the game as their scrum got on top and soon saw Manu Pati score an unconverted try after a glorious silky solo run which enabled G’s to take the lead 5-3.

Chiswick backs then, as if not to be outdone, created some of their own space and crafted a try out wide which, their in form kicker, converted to make the half time score a nail biting 5-10.

The second half became a bit of a stalemate as both sides gave it all they had to either retake the lead from G’s viewpoint or consolidate the lead from Chiswick’s. G’s got their glimmer of hope early in the half as Gerwyn Hughes slotted a difficult penalty to bring them back to within two points.

Gs then asked many questions of the Chiswick defence but they responded well, coming back with a penalty of their own to take the lead back to five points and run out eventual 8-13 winners.

Gs were able to take some positives from the game as the scrum and lineout went well. Player of the day was Manu Pati who unfortunately played his last game for Grasshoppers.
