Weybridge Vandals head coach Nick Ridley hailed his pack rather than hat-trick hero Jake Sines after Saturday’s 24-18 try bonus-point triumph at Alton.

Vandals, relegated from London Division Two South West last season, had lost to Old Alleynians 38-23 on the opening day of the season last week.

But Sines’ triple and another from second row Daryl Bryant ensured Ridely’s men, who host Old Blues on Saturday, got their campaign up and running in Hampshire.

“After last season we couldn’t go through another series of losses, so to win was massive for us,” said Ridley.

“It was the sort of game we would have lost last year, but we played well. Our pack absolutely destroyed them and with them we can beat anyone in this league.”

Elsewhere, Kingston RFC went top of the Surrey Division One table with a hard fought 20-11 victory at Old Walcountians on Saturday.

Tries from prop Chi Kavindele, winger Harry Bettinson and the skipper Jonathan Morris helped head coach Earle Wilkes’ men maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign, ahead of this week’s visit of Old Whitgiftians.

London Divison One South Cobham bounced back from last week’s defeat at Basingstoke, as they won 35-26 at Hove on Saturday ahead of this week’s visit of Southampton outfit Trojans.

In the same division, number eight Chris Pointing’s try was the only highlight in struggling Sutton & Epsom’s 33-10 home defeat to Portsmouth on Saturday.

It was the first time the south coast side had won at Rugby Lane and also their first win of the campaign.

In London Division Two South West, Wimbledon got their first win of the season with a 23-0 at London Cornish, with tries coming from Ollie Ruper and Ed Lewis.

Old Emanuel Rugby Club start their Surrey Division Two campaign at Chipstead on Saturday.
