Teddington head coach Giselle Mather says a first defeat in 62 matches could be the wake-up call her side needed to launch another promotion tilt.

The Antlers bounced back from last week’s opening day London Division Two South West defeat at Effingham & Leatherhead with a 18-3 win over Twickenham at Bushy Park on Saturday.

And Mather reckons the shock to the system was just what her side needed.

“If we’d won our first game, it might have been a case of just thinking we were going to walk the league again,” she says.

“The defeat has focused their minds on the fact this league is a different kettle of fish. This is a fresh start for us all.”

Teddington travel to Wimbeldon this Saturday.
