Bank of England Rugby Club returned to winning ways in Herts/Middlesex Division One with a thumping 50-7 win over basement club Harlequin Amateurs.
The win opens a four-point gap between BoE in sixth and this weekend’s opponents Old Actonians in seventh.
Skipper Ed Waite said: “It was a good positive performance that we needed after the disappointing Harrow game last weekend. We used the game to test some new combinations which worked well.
“Our forwards punished Quins and quickly broke their morale, which gave quick ball for our backs which they used with good accuracy, although at times we almost tried to much and we probably should have scored more points.”
He added: “We were disappointed to concede a penalty try as a clean sheet was there for the taking.”
On the scoresheet were Jonny Allen (two), Nick Spencer (two), Dan McCue, Cameron Ewer, Rory MacDonald and Waite. Spencer added 10 points with the boot.
Waite said: “With the table very close at the top, we know that every game in our run up to Christmas is vital and we need to fight for every bonus point we can to keep our league challenge alive.”
