Head coach Aidan Turns will be looking for more of the fighting spirit that secured a thrilling victory over previously unbeaten KCS Old Boys last time out, when Weybridge Vandals head to Effingham & Leatherhead on Saturday.

Skipper Cassian Bramham-Law's men, who enjoyed a welcome break from action at the weekend, defied a string of injuries and absentees to spring a surprise 23-19 win, despite having trailed 14-3 at one stage.

A Luke Carter brace and 13 points from the captain overturned the deficit in the second half and some stout defending in the final quarter secured a famous triumph at Brownacres.

And, while Turns believes Vandals have played better this season and lost, he could not fault the tenacity on show.

"Resources were really stretched. It was a back to the walls effort and there was plenty of fighting in the trenches, but the lads fought hard, fronted up and made their tackles," he said.

"They did not come here expecting to lose and I think they will feel they lost it, rather than we won it. They are a good side, but they made uncharacteristic errors and didn't play very smart rugby on the day.

"We played better at Old Reigatians and lost, so I guess these things even themselves out, but the boys put in a shift and deserved the win."

Vandals were missing Jonny Howe, James Wellden and Joe Spencer through injury last week and expect to welcome them - and a host of others - back for Saturday's road trip.
