Elmbridge cruise to victory over Dragons

ELMBRIDGE RLFC (ERL) 40 MEDWAY DRAGONS 0

Cold and rainy start saw the first try to ERL. A penalty to ERL in the first seven mins gave ERL the opportunity to attack Medway's defence.

ERL No.8 ran through 3 missed tackles to score. Conversion missed. This put Medway on the defence as the game carried on with another fantastic dummy and break by No.6 to score another try.

With two tries under their belt ERL started to play with confidence, a superb kick from No.6 saw yet another try scored in the corner by No.5.

Medway put in some good tackles but were no match for ERL, a great break by No.1 gliding pasted 3 or 4 Medway players set up another attempt to score. Medway though on this occasion defended well and the ball was held up.

A great forward drive by ERL and yards gained saw No.A score and convert. Last few minutes of the 1st half again saw ERL running at pace with quick off loads, moving the ball out wide for a try in the corner by No.5. Half time score 22 - 0.

Right from the start ERL advanced into Medway territory, and with a display of juggling saw No.8 over the line for a try.

Medway fought back and with some excellent ball skills and taking some hard hits from ERL kept possession to almost score under the post.

Medway started to attack and defend well, for a while had a spell of possession. A great tackle by ERL No.7 won the ball back. Almost another try 20 mins into the 2nd half, but the referee decided it was a forward pass.

A scrum was awarded, another huge drive by ERL saw No.A break for the line - try scored. A fantastic cross field move and a superb pass from No.1 gave ERL's No.5 a try in the corner. As the game was drawing to an end ERL put in one last phase to score a try. Final score 40 - 0.

Elmbridge RLFC set pieces practised at the training ground, excellent ball skills, superb tackling and team work were too strong for Medway Dragons. Credit to both teams for keeping their discipline and sportsmanship to the end.

Man of the match Charlie Badham was presented with match tickets for Harlequins v Castleford by Brian McDermott, Quins' head coach, who had come down to watch.
