Wayne Alexander has been handed a timely boost after his agonising ankle last month revealing he should be back in training before the turn of the year.
The Croydon Guardian revealed last month that the former WBU light-middleweight champion had suffered a potentially fatal blow in his boxing comeback after breaking his ankle in a freak training accident.
The 34-year-old boxer has not fought since his first round defeat to Serve Vigne last December and was on course for a ring comeback early next year - but due to the unfortunate injury his return has been forced back, while some people have suggested he may never fight again.
But a scan on his injured ankle at Mayday Hospital has raised the veteran's hopes of a swift return after a specialist confirmed Alexander's ankle is healing well and the Croydon boxer says he expects to be back in light training after the cast is removed in four weeks.
And Alexander has set himself an April comeback as he plots his pursuit of Jamie Moore's British light-middleweight title.
"I've been told by the specialist that it is healing how it should be which is a massive relief because you can never really know.
"I can't put weight on it for four weeks - but once it comes off then I can do some swimming and light exercise.
"But the specialist doesn't suggest I do any running until the new year.
He added: "I would look to be back in the ring in April or May."
And after his agonising ankle break, Alexander admits he has found time to enjoy the more laid back aspects of life.
"All I can do is rest, there's not much you can do when you're on crutches.
"I've been spending a lot of time with my daughter which I've really enjoyed - but I'm itching to get back into training."
