Last Saturday saw our Ryman sides in both league and FA Cup action. But what a nightmare of a week for Dulwich Hamlet.
They suffered two home defeats on the trot, a real set back to what has been a fairly good start in the league.
First on Tuesday they lost at home to Molesey 3-1, and to go with that saw the dismissal of two of the home sides players, but the Hamlet were two goals down before they lost their first player.
Then the visit of Whyteleafe on Saturday saw them lose again and tumble down the table to eighth from top.
Mind you it was not a good midweek for all of our sides.
Whyteleafe travelled to Staines Town and, despite leading from a Mark Tompkins penalty, lost 2-1.
As for Croydon Athletic, they had another cup win in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup against combined Counties League outfit AFC Wallingford.
They will now face Dr Martens Premier League side Crawley Town away in the next round.
But the Athletic did not do any better in midweek in the league as they travelled down to the south coast to face Worthing.
They lost 1-0 in a tight game, which has pushed them down the table to seventh – one above Dulwich.
On Saturday Hamlet’s visitors were our own local side Whyteleafe, who were looking to push themselves into the promotion places.
Whyteleafe won the game 3-1 and that after the Hamlet had taken the lead through Warren Houghton on 25 minutes.
His head met a corner to send the ball crashing into the net past keeper Lidbury. But the Leafe were in no mood to suffer another defeat.
In the 45th minute prolific marksman Mark Tomkins grabbed the equaliser. The second half saw the Leafe take control of the game in the space of four minutes when first Nigel Golly scored to put the Leafe in front on 68 minutes.
And substitute Domonic Barclay headed home to make the game and the points safe for Whyteleafe, and push them into the top four.
Croydon Athletic had a day off from league duties as they travel the road to Cardiff in the FA Cup.
This time the visitors were AFC Wallingford from the Combined Counties League in this second qualifying round tie and as in the last round they went the same way as fellow league side Bedfont.
The score was different but the Athletic were comfortable winners 2-0 and will now play Crawley Town in the next round.
Could this be the year for the Athletic to catch a big fish?
The lead was gained in the 11th minute when Danny Stassinos fired home. The tie was all but over in the 24th minute when John Fowler scored the Athletics second.
There was no score in the second half but despite a couple of attempts on the Athletic goal by their visitors it was the Athletics’ name that went into the hat for Monday’s draw.
Croydon FC was without a fixture.
