Thank you for publishing the photo of the poor bulldog, Chaos, whose suffering was all too apparent (Guardian, September 29).
I have no quarrel with Winston Richardson being given a custodial sentence to indicate the severity of his crime.
But I do believe all animals, young children and vulnerable adults should be protected.
Keeping a pet is a privilege and not a necessity of life. It would benefit society, and be no great hardship for this man to be given a monitored lifetime ban from keeping any animal.
What he has been given is a licence to offend again in three years time.
