A 32 year old chauffeur from Thornton Heath has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment after he was stopped by officers in Beckenham and found to be carrying a large quantity of heroin.
Jason Malone, age 32 (dob 14/11/1978), of Galpins Road, Thornton Heath was sentenced to six years imprisonment at Croydon Crown Court on 5 January 2011 after being found guilty of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug (heroin). He was sentenced to a further year in prison (to be served consecutively) after pleading guilty to possessing ammunition without a certificate and also to a year in prison (to be served concurrently) after pleading guilty to possessing ammunition when prohibited (total term of imprisonment = 7 years).
Malone was stopped after officers from Bromley Police's Borough Support Unit after his black BMW was seen acting suspiciously in Braeside, Beckenham at 2300hrs on 10 August 2010. When he was searched Malone was found to have two wraps of heroin hidden in one of his socks. A further large packet of heroin was found secreted in his groin when he was strip searched at Bromley Police Station.
A further quantity of drugs, drug related paraphernalia and 20 rounds of ammunition was found at Malone's home address.
Malone was charged on 11 August 2010 with possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, possessing ammunition without a certificate and possessing ammunition when prohibited for life (in 1998 Malone was convicted at the Inner London Crown Court of possession with intent to supply drugs and received a three year custodial sentence, prohibiting him holding a firearm/ammunition for life).
Malone denied the charge of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, but was convicted at Croydon Crown Court after a two day trial on 17 December 2010. He had previously pled guilty to the charges of possessing ammunition without a certificate and possessing ammunition when prohibited on 1 November 2010.
Detective Constable Nicola O'Connell from Bromley police's CID said: “As this success shows Bromley Police remain committed to tackling the supply of class A drugs and those who seek to profit from the misery that drug production and usage causes.”
