HARROW BOROUGH 3 CROYDON ATHLETIC 1
10:42am Tuesday 23rd November 2010 in Your Say
Saturday 20th November Ryman Premier After the euphoria of the victory over Margate the Rams came back to earth with defeat at Earlsmead Stadium.
After a slow start by both sides Harrow took the lead on 10 minutes when striker Troy Hewitt found space on the edge of the area and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner. This galvanised Harrow and the Rams had to withstand some pressure but the defence of Helge Orome, Callum Donaghey, Danny Dudley, Troy Oham-Strachan and captain Kevin Sefaah held out well and their goal was rarely threatened. Slowly Croydon got back into the game and on the half hour Reggie Savage had a shot well saved by the Margate keeper. Croydon didn’t have long to wait before equalising when on 36 minutes a good passing move ended with the ball falling to Danny Elgar who calmly slipped the ball past the Harrow goalkeeper. The game then became end to end with both Dorian Smith (Croydon) and Hewitt (Harrow) having shots saved.
The second half began like the first finished with chances at both ends. Adam Peck looked assured in goal and the Rams looked dangerous going forward. On the hour mark Elgar beat two defenders before drilling a 20 yard shot which crashed against the crossbar and bounced the wrong side off the goal line. Soon after Peck made another good save from a strike by Rocky Baptiste. In the 67th minute Donaghey met a corner with a firm header but it was cleared off the line.
Just as it looked like being a draw in the 81st minute Harrow skipper Wayne Walters met a corner with a firm header which flashed into the net. Croydon made substitutions but the equaliser could not be found and on the break the ball fell for Harrow’s Baptiste to score via the post into an empty net in the 90th minute.
A rather flattering scoreline for Harrow and the Rams who must now regroup for Wednesday’s home game with Aveley.
