With the council elections on May 22 fast approaching, Shasha Khan is right to ask what the main political parties’ position is on fracking in Croydon.

The Labour party on Croydon Council is opposed to fracking in Croydon because of the risks around drilling under people’s houses and to our water supply from the use of chemicals in the process.

As Waddon Labour Party, we are astounded by the pro-fracking position of Waddon Conservative councillor Simon Hoar.

When asked about the issue on Croydon Radio he said: "Well, as long as all the standard planning and environmental regulations are held to and it meets all the environmental controls, I don’t see there’s anything particularly wrong with it.

"Most of what they pump through is basically water and if it can free up some gas and help make us a bit more energy independent then that’s positively a good thing."
