As someone who lives close by Ashburton playing fields, Bywood Sanctuary and the Long Lane Woods I was very annoyed to read Gareth Streeter’s letter (Your Say, August 27), as this was obviously political point-scoring rather than any attempt to address what is a serious problem.

We feel privileged to have these areas in our neighbourhood and cannot understand the lack of pride and total lack of thought for other residents, displayed by those who both fly-tip and casually drop litter.

We are pleased that Labour has put fly-tipping high on its agenda (Your Say, Sept 10), and wish them the best of luck in tackling the problem, but believe it is important they set up an easily accessible reporting system, that is answered by a human being, and acted on.

When the travellers were on the Ashburton playing fields recently,  and in other instances of antisocial behaviour, the most frustrating thing was finding someone to report it to, not just a voicemail, or connecting to someone who does not know the area at all.

Most residents do take pride in the area they live in and would be more than happy to report any incidents of this nature, but perhaps do not do so because they cannot contact anyone, or cannot contact them in a time-frame that ensures those committing these offences are caught.
