I am really tired of suffering with disruption in South Norwood.

I am writing to you about South Norwood High Street and Portland Road.

I have been a resident of South Norwood for more than 25 years and I have never been so upset and frustrated at the level of investment planning, programming and management of the public realm in South Norwood.

Myself and other residents of South Norwood have seen the area rapidly fall into disrepair and neglect.

I believe this is due to large amounts of capital programme funding being spent in the centre of Croydon rather then on other areas where investment is needed most.

Over the past few months there has been substantial increases in traffic congestion on South Norwood High Street from the junction of Portland Road all the way to Sehurst Station.

This traffic is causing delays of 40 to 60 minutes through the high street.

This high level of congestion severely impacts the following:

l Buses – these get delayed by 40 minutes causing frustrated bus drivers and queues of people awaiting buses during the morning and evening peak times.

This delays people in the mornings trying to get to work and spoils their evening by getting home late from work.

l Environmental hazards –

pollution emitted from traffic standing causing health problems for the walking public and noise pollution caused by honking horns, road rage and running engines.

Please do not think I am just one member of the public complaining and being a nuisance and I will go away eventually.

I am speaking on behalf of the community who have the same sentiments as me and who are frankly fed up of the mess in South Norwood.

We are fed up of being patient. We are fed up of complaining.

The traffic congestion is largely caused by vehicles attempting to turn right on to Portland Road and blocking the whole junction for those vehicles that want to  carry on straight or turn left.

I plead to the council to do something to ease the congestion at this location.

Today I had to wait 40 minutes for a bus, which is not on.

The pubic are tired of being patient, tired of waiting.

It should not be this way. Every night going home it is the same story traffic traffic and more traffic.

Please please do something about it. It is not fair on us.

Invest some money here too – do not forget us.
