With no consultation I am appalled that the incredibly precious public resource – Purley pool – has been doomed to close in April 2015 following a secretive decision by the council.

Worse still, just months before they came to power Labour leaders promised local people they would not close it.

We believed them.

The pool is busy and well used. My family use it several times a week. In times of obesity and when we are being urged to look after our health the council takes this wrong decision.

Swimming is something all ages can take part in.

It is inclusive and we are set to lose this.

Purley pool is accessible being near a train station and on many bus routes. Purley town centre benefits too as people going to the pool spend money in the town. So not only are we set to lose our pool, the local economy will suffer too.

While the council make out its due to money, they are building a new pool in New Addington costing £17m.

Croydon Council make the right decision and keep Purley pool open.
