I for one am not at all surprised that Croydon Council is closing old people's homes to balance its books.
In the past it has closed social day-care centres in The Crescent, Purley, and Westway with promises that alternative arrangements would be provided for people with mental health issues who were isolated.
The closure of Crosfield, which is purely an economic decision, is a prime example of a council obsessed with balancing its books regardless of the damage it may cause to the people concerned.
Residents of Stroud Green and Coleby Court are already portraying anxiety symptoms due to the imminent closure of what is, after all, their home.
The absolute callousness of a Labour council that targets the vulnerable and infirm in order to balance its books begs the question; why should we vote Labour again?
The fact is as a lifetime Labour voter I now feel that a change of council politics is required to show the current Labour council the only reason it was elected is because the voters expected a caring council.
I doubt any notice will be taken of my complaint. Despite a Government requirement that service users should be consulted prior to changes that affect them, this council continues to make decisions that do not take into account client needs and steamroll its policies through regardless of opposition.
It appears the most vulnerable are targeted because they have not the power to resist. A very dangerous and blinkered attitude.
