29th Croydon (St John’s) Scout Group are a thriving Scout Group in Shirley and we are desparately in need of a new Beaver Scout leader. Our current leader has had to step down due to family commitments and no one wants to see the Beaver colony close - especially the 20 Beaver Scouts!

Could you run a Beaver colony? Do you know anyone else who could? Were you a Brownie or Guide, Cub or Scout and do you remember how much fun you had and how well it prepared you for the 'real' world - working in a team - learning how to take the lead - being confident to try new skills - taking responsibility for yourself - and being a good citizen? Not to mention smokey campfires, toasted marshmallows, singing silly songs, sleeping in a tent or a hut and simply having a load of fun!

Beavers are aged 6-8 years, boys and girls, and meet on a Wednesday evening in Shirley, between 5.45pm and 7pm. We are the 8th largest Scout Group in the Croydon area, with our own headquarters, minibus and existing helpers. What we need is someone to take the lead for the Beaver Colony and co-ordinate the running of the weekly meetings, supported by an existing team of able and experienced helpers.

If you want to know more about how to become a leader, contact the Group Scout Leader, Simon Lloyd, on 07714 624369 or email to gsl@29thcroydonscoutgroup.org.uk - all leaders need to be aged between 18 and 65 and be prepared to have a CRB check.

They will learn 'on the job' by working on a series of NVQ style modules and be well supported at every stage by a strong leadership team, both within the Group and the Croydon Scout District team, together with local training courses, where appropriate.

When completing a CV, to be able to say that you volunteer with Scouting, a future employer can learn a great deal about you – they will know that you are someone who has a sense of community spirit, is reliable, a team-player, has good time-management skills and a person who will have many other valued skills to bring to the workplace.

Think about it please - 20 Beaver Scouts are waiting for just the right person to say yes, could that be you?
