1/5/10 Girl Guides at the V&A Patchwork Social A group of Guides from Addiscombe, Purley and Sanderstead travelled up to London to go to The Victoria and Albert Museum to learn about Patchworking. They were joined by their Guiders and the County Commissioner.
David Judd, Creative Projects Manager of the V&A welcomed everyone and introduced Lyn Antill, President of Project Linus UK, who was there to tell everyone about PLUK’s mission. They want to provide love, comfort, warmth and security through the donation of new handmade, washable quilts and blankets to babies, children and teenagers that are disadvantaged, sick, disabled or distressed.
PLUK consists of knitters and quilters across the UK from the Shetlands to the Channel Islands.
The Guides do not generally sew so they felt a great sense of achievement when they sewed their squares. They also designed hexagonal patches for the digital quilt and they could view their work online.
To round of the day they looked around more of the V&A exhibits and went to the gift shop. All in all an excellent day and maybe a few new budding quilters now they have learnt to sew.
