As part of the forthcoming South Norwood Arts Festival a selection of Frazer Ashford’s rock and pop images, mainly taken in and around Croydon, will be exhibited at The Gold Coast Bar and Restaurant in Portland Road between 12th and the 18th July.

During the late 1970's and the early 1980's Croydon-based Frazer Ashford gained a reputation for his imaginative rock and theatre photography. His subjects included such legends as Charlie Chaplin, Gene Pitney, The New Seekers, Rod Stewart, David Bowie, Elton John and Dr Hook with many pictures being seen in newspapers, magazines and books as well as being featured in one-man exhibitions around the UK and America.

For many years his work was regularly seen in various newspapers and magazines as he worked extensively around South London and at The Fairfield Halls in particular.

In 1983 he hung up his cameras and stored all the negatives away from view and turned to television where he was part of the original team that brought cable television to the area.

As a producer, he produced programmes for, amongst others, the BBC and ITV and won several national and international awards.

Now, 25 years later, he has re-discovered his original 130,000 + negative archive. By taking advantage of the latest digital technology, he is able to scan and print selected images in order to allow him to exhibit and offer for sale his best pictures, many of which are being shown publicly for the first time. As well as turning the archives into prints and artwork, Frazer has also started taking pictures again after a 25-year gap. This time he is mainly turning my attention to landscapes in the USA & Ireland.

He has been awarded the Associateship of both the British Institute of Professional Photographers ABIPP) and The Royal Photographic Society (ARPS).
