Have you ever wondered what it would be like going on a lively journey, travelling inside your house up in the air; with millions of balloons attached on the roof? Have you ever wanted to go on a once in a life time adventure to the phenomenal Paradise Falls? Well now you can! The movie has changed my life so much that I feel like making a sequel to it.

Exhilarating, ecstatic and extravagant! That’s what the Disney Pixar animation ‘UP’ is all about. The movie was established back in the year 2009; it might be a five years old but I never get tired watching it. Even though the animation’s target audience is for youngsters, I enjoyed it ever so much that I wanted to watch it again and again. The movie itself has diversity of genres within: companionship, adventure, drama and somewhat romance.

When I first watched the movie, in the Odeon, I felt that some particular scenes were quite memorable… heart-warming as well as being unforgettable. The genius behind the film is Pete Docter (director, whom also directed other memorable movies: Toy Story; Monsters Inc.) One of the scenes of the film was when Carl (a 78-year-old widowed man) and Russell (a young, youthful wilderness explorer) are inside Carl’s home and the two companions voyage in mid-air; floating due to large number amounts of balloons attached. The house and the balloons attached to the roof look like a humongous gingerbread house with colourful bubble gums, with all the colours of the rainbow, flying in the beautiful baby blue sky. I felt the scene was fantasized and enchanting – but worked well in a captivating way. I adored this scene because it shows that you can travel in an unusual, but awesome, way. It made me want to blow up thousands of balloons and travel to the Bahamas in a flying house. In reality you can’t obviously travel in a floating house to your desired destination. Or could you?

In addition to this, when I was in the audience I witnessed another scene, which was in my head all the time, it also had an effect of the audience. It was so moving that that everyone in the screening room were crying with tears of sympathy for cartoon characters. The favourable part was when Carl and Ellie (friend and lover of Carl) grow up together and live their lives in a blissfully. As each moment passes by Carl’s love for Ellie grows a little stronger. This made me feel like if cartoons can have a happy life, then I for one should have a happy life too. Also throughout that scene, Carl is there for his loving wife no matter what: young; elderly and health; sickness. Then an unfortunate event occurs to the couple… everything goes wrong for them. Whatever happens the couple are still enthusiastic to go to their dream holiday, Paradise Falls. To the lovers, Paradise Falls is heaven on Earth for them. When Ellie is on her death bed, Carl vows Ellie that he will go there and make their visions come true. After that scene the cinema was a bath filled with tears of sadness and affection. Now that is what you call ‘true love’. This made me desire to go out in the real world and search for my true love, so that we could go on picnics like the animated couple.

After viewing the film it has motivated me – it had an immense impact in my life. Why was the movie so inspiring? Well, I personally admired the movie because it made me thoroughly think through the key stages of life and how it’s really like: life has joyful occasions; sometimes life has times which reek of melancholy and depression. Furthermore, I felt the moral of the film was to chase after your dreams – even if they are far, far away. The concept of the film stuck on me like super glue, I literally couldn’t stop thinking of the narrative. The idea of the movie also made me roam around my imagination, like exploring in a jungle, it kept me open minded.

As my mind expanded, I hosted a survey and asked the public questions on the topic of the film ‘UP’. I wanted to explore the movie – even though it ended.

A fifteen-year-old girl said, ‘’It’s worth watching. I would spend my money on a cinema ticket to watch it again.’’

“Pixar should create a sequel to ‘UP’; I want to know what happens next!’’, a young boy commented.

It seems like the movie has not just made an impact of my life. It made a difference to the world’s life. How amazing is that? A 1 hour and 36 minute movie has made an effect on most people’s lives. The movie to me was like water. Without it, I couldn’t survive.

Overall, the movie as a whole seems like it has made a change in everybody’s lives. I strongly recommend watching ‘UP’ to everyone because of its perfect plot, clever characters and for just being a life changing picture. In my own words, I tell you it’s worth the time and money to watch – you will not feel any remorse at all. The films shows that you can achieve anything – regardless of what age you are – you can do it! That is what the movie has taught me; I would give this fantastic film a four star rating for its extreme excellence. How much would you rate this film out of five stars? Would you ever consider watching ‘UP’ (again)?
