On the 1st August 2014, Purley CC’s 1st XI took on the all-star lashings. This was in attempt to raise money for help for heroes. The weather was kind to us and the event kicked off at 12:30pm. It started with a corporate lunch for 200 guests. People could bid for items and enjoy humorous entertainment whilst mingling.
Over 700 people came to show their support on that day. The match commenced at 3:30 pm. Purley had 14 people in their team, out of which 11 batted and fielded and the lashings had 15 people on their team. The lashings world XI won the toss and decided to bat first. They scored a whopping 151 runs all together. Ian Harvey scored the most runs for the lashings, coming in with a total of 51.
Next to bat was our very own team. All together they scored a reasonable 102 runs. Not bad considering they were playing against ex-internationals. The captain of Purley’s team, James Scott scored most of the runs for them. Coming in with a total of 34. I think you can probably guess who won! Most of purley’s players got out with a score of 0 in the space of 2 minutes. This includes: S Bowry, A Naeem and R Madhok.
After the match I spoke with Sunny Bowry and he said “I was a little off my game today, but hey, we played well and I'm proud".After the match there was a barbecue, most people left but those who stayed had a pleasent evening
