On the 22nd November, Charlotte Hopwood from Family Mosaic Housing Association organised a taster session for youngsters aged 14-24 years, who graciously allowed the session to run without charge, at The Ebony Horse Riding Club. The sessions covered the basics of horse-riding, horse knowledge and stable management.

21 year old Arancha found the session “fun and very relaxing, it helped me to unwind and improved my balance; I was surprised to discover Horse Riding in the Brixton area, especially near housing estates. I can definitely see the positive impact it has on the community here."

Ebony Horse Club operates in Coldharbour Ward, Brixton - one of the most disadvantaged inner city neighbourhoods in the country. The area in the past was infamous for under-achievement in schools, high rates of teenage pregnancy and negative stereotypes of young people, gang violence and drug related crime.

Ebony Horse Club greatly benefits young people in the Brixton area and as Vanessa Marques (Youth Co-ordinator) said “Ebony Horse Riding Club help young people who may be facing trouble in school or at home to gain new experiences and to benefit from the powerful, therapeutic influence that horses can bring.”

Vanessa Marques also spoke about the great opportunities Ebony Horse Riding offers to youngsters such as: Membership for 8-25 year olds, Annual Residential Trips To Wales, performances at The London Olympia International Horse Show and a Royal Visit from the Queen and The Duchess Of Cornwall.
