The Prime Minister has attracted claims of cronyism when it was revealed his hairdresser will receive an MBE for 'services to hairdressing'.

Lino Carbosiero, described by The Daily Mirror as a "celebrity crimper", was given the gong in the Queen's New Year's Honours List.

But why shouldn't a hairdresser at the top of his field, who is apparently so popular that you have to book him a year in advance, be given an official gold star?

And where was the outcry when fellow barbers were given official honours in years gone by? Look up Errol Douglas (MBE in 1998); Charlie Miller (OBE in 2012); and Toni Mascolo (OBE in 2008), who opened the first Toni & Guy salon in Clapham 50 years ago.

Are there some pursuits or careers in life that will never qualify as 'good enough' to make you part of the elite?

Have your say by taking part in our poll and answer this: are people right to criticise the MBE given to this particular hairdresser because he cuts the PM's hair? Or do you think hairdressing should generally not qualify?
