Aspiring young dancers in Wimbledon can learn Latin and ballroom choreography from two Strictly Come Dancing professionals.

Kevin and Karen Clifton are launching their dance school in Wimbledon with courses starting in September and January.

Kevin said: “We want kids to be able to learn the dance styles that we love in a competition -free environment without the restrictions of needing a dance partner or any specific dance gear.”

Karen added: “It’s a place where they will be free to express themselves while building confidence, staying fit, making friends, and having fun.”

A free open day is being held from noon to 2pm on Sunday, September 4, at Hillside Church in Worple Road.

The taster class, for children aged seven to 13, will be personally taught by the pair, with a Q&A session afterwards. No experience or dancewear is need and parents are welcome.

Starting September 11, classes will run at the church weekly during term time with sessions for youngsters aged between seven and 11 from 1pm to 2pm with children aged 12 to 16 going from 2.15pm to 3pm.

Kevin has been a Strictly pro since 2013, when he reached the final with Croydon newsreader Susanna Reid. In 2014 and 2015, he finished second on the show with celebrity partners Frankie Bridge and Kellie Bright respectively.

Venezuela-born former World Mambo champion Karen, whose surname was Hauer prior to marrying Kevin last year, has been a fixture on Strictly since 2012. Her celebrity partners have included Westlife’s Nicky Byrne, Hairy Biker Dave Myers, Sutton’s Jeremy Vine and TOWIE’s Mark Wright, with whom she reached the final in 2014.

The classes cost £185 for the term.
