How early would you line up for a half-priced clothing?

Well shoppers were lining up from 4am outside Centrale and Whitgift to get their hands on the Boxing Day sales.

And what were people so eager to buy?

Well if you hear any of your friends getting engaged, then you'll know where they got the ring from as Jewellers Lyons reported a "sharp increase" in the sale of diamond rings.

Centrale general manager David Ordman said it was no surprise that people were eager to get shopping.

“The annual Boxing Day sales are marked as an important date in the diary for shoppers and it has continued to do so for residents in Croydon," he said.

"Centrale & Whitgift saw bargain-hunters queuing from 4am, as retailers including Next, Zara and House of Fraser are offering excellent discounts this year."

To nobody's surprise, the iPhone X was also a big seller as Whitgift's general manager Andrew Bauer looking forward to the shopping spree continuing.

"Many people will use Boxing Day as an opportunity to treat themselves, as well as spending time with family and friends at one of our many restaurants and cafes," he said.

"We look forward to continuing to welcome shoppers over the festive period.”
