A decade ago, Moray Laing was at an impasse in his life when he required a kidney transplant.

Today the Coulsdon man can hold his head up high after medalling for Great Britain at the European Transplant Sport Championship.

Laing, who is also a member of the Reigate Priory Athletic Club, was already a world transplant games javelin champion.

This time around he added a silver and bronze in the discus and javelin to his collection

"It was an honour to represent team GB at the games and to compete against other transplant athletes from many European countries," Laing said.

"The games provide an added incentive to keep fit, take advantage of the second chance generously given to me by my donor and to help in promoting organ donation.

"The coaching and support I receive at Reigate Priory AC definitely helped me in winning the medals.

"I am also grateful to my sponsor Angelo Conte of Nonna Rosas in Coulsdon who kindly provided funding for my team kit as all team members were self-funded or sponsored."

He isn't about to rest on his laurels either

Laing is now preparing for the British Transplant Games in August with a view to qualifying for the British team which will compete in the World Transplant Games next year in Newcastle.
